Sixth Class Mural

Every year since 2000, 6th class did a school mural . The mural is about a story from the bible. This year we made a mural about the Crossing of the Red Sea. It is called Exodus 2008.

Before we met Brian Mc Gee the potter and artist, everyone read the story from different books and got pictures from the internet to give us some ideas. Then we drew pictures of what we thought the mural would look like. Brian took some ideas from our pictures for the mural.

A few months later Brian came into our classroom and talked to us about refugees and how the Israelites were refugees and there are still refugees in the world today. We decided to put the names of countries that there are refugees in around the picture of the Red Sea. We each picked a country and made these tiles out of clay.

The next day Brian came we drew what we would take with us if we were refugees leaving a country. It was really hard to pick. We decided to add this to our mural alond with the refugee countries.

The mural is now in the All Saints church for all to see and enjoy. Both local people and visitors to our church can see the work and thought that the children have put into their mural. It was good fun. I really enjoyed it and it was a good experience for my class.
